Chapter 9 Fine Arts: Burnt Fork Quilt Pattern

Background

This wall quilt was designed to honor the spirited life of Elinore Pruitt Stewart. You, too, can design a quilt to honor Elinore. Everyone in the class will complete this assignment.

Create a quilt square:

Create your own quilt square on a 12 by 12-inch piece of drawing paper. Use a ruler to help keep your lines straight.

Most quilt squares have repeated triangles and squares arranged into an attractive pattern. Your own square can be as simple or as complicated as you want to make it.

Once you are happy with your design, add color to enhance the overall look. As a class you may want to decide on what colors you are going to apply.

Find something to tape all the squares to. After your square is colored, put tape on the backside and place your square next to your classmates’ squares to complete the paper quilt. An arrangement of five squares by five squares makes a great size.

Remember, your quilt is to honor Elinore Pruitt Stewart.
