Background
When pioneer children were lucky enough to go to school, they usually found themselves in a one–room school house. One teacher taught students who ranged in age from five to fifteen. It was important for the younger students to learn the ABCs.
Compose a rhyme
Compose a rhyme that uses all the letters of the alphabet, from A to Z. (You may not find any words to rhyme with X.)
A is in lad, but not in boy;
It is in happy, but not in joy.
B is in ball, but not in sphere;
It is in buck, but not in deer.
C is in clean, but not in pure;
It is in certain, but not in sure.
Notice the pattern
- Words in red are synonyms of each other, and words in blue are synonyms of each other.
- The last words of each line rhyme.
- The first word in color contains the correct letter of the alphabet, and its synonym does not.
