Analyzing Skills: Transcribing Like a Historian

Activities

In the course of their everyday research, historians often come across documents, letters, and other written information that must be transcribed. Transcription is not an easy task. This exercise is your chance to be a real historian and see whether you can transcribe a letter written by Addie Gilbert in her unique penmanship. As you can see, her writing is difficult to read because of her penmanship, and when she ran out of room, she began writing on top of what she had already written! Turn to the second page of this exercise and transcribe what Addie wrote in this letter home to her family. Good luck!
