Come along with Peter Burnett and others who left their homes to strike it rich in the gold mines of California. Although some hoped to make their fortune in the mines, many simply wanted to earn enough money to pay off their debts back home. Discover the hardships people endured to make the trek across the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

Chapter 7: Gold Discovered!
Gold fever! After gold was discovered on the ranch belonging to Captain John A. Sutter, people flocked to California in droves. Peter Burnett organizes a wagon train of men from the Pacific Northwest. They make the journey from Oregon south in hope of making their fortunes.

Chapter 8: Excitement in the Sierras
While crossing the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Burnett and his wagon train come across a group of lost travelers, headed by Peter Lassen. Burnett's crew rescues the near-starving and thankful people.

Chapter 9: Life in the Gold Mines
Arriving at the mines, Burnett finds friends and relatives who have made the trek to California before him. Burnett, an intelligent man, finds himself employed by Captain Sutter not in the gold mines but as Sutter's attorney.
