Primary source images are important to use when studying history, as they show the actual people, place, or event being discussed. Compare and contrast the two images provided to reflect on the differences between the two cultures.

Look at the two pictures very carefully then answer the following questions.

  1. What would be a good title for each picture? Explain.

  2. Compare and contrast the two pictures. What similarities and differences can you find?

  3. How do these two pictures help explain the conflicts often faced by Native American and white settlers?

  4. How does the way these people are dressed, reflect their cultural beliefs?

  5. How does the way you dress reflect your cultural beliefs?

  6. What might later historians notice about the dress of people in our region today?
